Book Blogger Hop!

Book Blogger Hop
Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Crazy-for-books.  I love these book blog hops.  Over the past week I have found some great blogs and have learned so much about blogging.
Question of the week:  If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?
Depends on the series.  If the series is like the Sookie Stackhouse books where Charlaine Harris did a quick recap of what happened in previous books (only the info needed to understand the story) then no.  I actually didn’t even read the first book in that series.  I had seen the first season of True Blood and wanted to know what happened next so I skipped the first and started with the second book.  To this day I have read the whole series (amazing!) and still have yet to read the first book.
If, however, the series was meant to be read in order, and each book follows the previous without a recap, then yes, I would start with the first title.

I can dive right into the middle of a book series if the series' story
doesn't run chronologically.

That is to say, if each novel in a series is a stand-alone story (like Lee
Child's Reacher novels) then I don't feel the need to start with book one.

On the other hand, a series of books (like Richard Hatch's Battlestar
Galactica novels) can't be read out of sequence since each new book builds
upon the story of the previous entry in the series.

Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!
